Shopify for Computer Science Education

We’re committed to improving computational literacy. We want to connect computer science to the real world because technology is everywhere. We believe computational thinking opens doors, provides useful skills, and helps solve real, complex problems that impact the world. That’s why we’re supporting and creating K-12 and postsecondary programs and mentoring people toward becoming creators and makers. We’re also aiming to increase the diversity of those who learn and engage with computer science. CS education should be accessible to everyone.

Powering our company for the long term

Here at Shopify, we build for the long term—planning for the future not for next week or even next year, but for decades. There’s bound to be a lot of change, and our success will depend on coming up with compelling ideas and useful innovations. As we grow, we realize the need for the best talent to join us. We believe in growing more homegrown technical talent, and we want them to stay in Canada.

Education at Shopify

Education at Shopify is about creating and promoting a culture of learning and sharing. A fully-stocked library contains books that have energized the exec team. Weekly talks by Shopify employees share lessons and learnings, often work-related, but sometimes not—we’ve heard about travel epiphanies and beekeeping tips too. Hack Days happen quarterly to work on anything we want, even if it’s not related to our everyday role. And Coaches and the Talent Acceleration team provide guidance on reaching career goals.

Internships at Shopify

Shopify interns receive hands-on experience solving problems and provide meaningful impact on real projects. Across our offices in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Waterloo, interns experiment, take ownership, and pursue the things they care about—it all adds up to an awesome opportunity for growth. Check out our Internships page to learn more about upcoming opportunities.
