Product Update: Stripe Payment Gateway Integrated

Product Update: Stripe Payment Gateway Integrated

Product Update: Stripe Payment Gateway IntegratedHot on the heels of Stripe coming out of beta, we're proud to announce support for accepting payments on your Shopify store through Stripe! Stripe handles the full stack of payment processing without requiring you to have a merchant account or gateway; all you need is a bank account with one of their supported banks.

From the Stripe website:
"Stripe is a simple, developer-friendly way to accept payments online. We believe that enabling transactions on the web is a problem rooted in code, not finance, and we want to help put more websites in business. Complexity and opacity have traditionally been hallmarks of online payment processing. We want to fix that."

Special thanks to Ross Boucher and Greg Brockman for all their work on contributing the code for this gateway to ActiveMerchant.

At the moment they are US only, but they’re working on supporting other countries. You can signup to be notified when Stripe is available in your country here: https://stripe.com/help/global

Super exciting! Looking at getting it setup now!

This will save us at least $15/mo. Not a lot – but definitely enough to get excited about!

Wow, looks like the village is storming with pitch forks :).

One thing that is true is Shopify should jump in this thread post haste. However, it does say something that they are willing to keep this post up (not even closed!).

Now about he hidden secret, well not actually….

“Keep in mind that these prices are all inclusive and totally override any Shopify subscription transaction fees mentioned at http://shopify.com/pricing. Only store owners using a third party payment processor will be subject to Shopify subscription transaction fees in addition to their gateway or merchant account provider’s credit card fees.”

    http://docs.shopify.com/manual/more/2-shopify-payments

Agreed, should be clearly pointed out on the pricing page.

I have used them all (well almost, never used ZenCart!)and have many tools in the tool box. For customers that 1) don’t have a solution and 2) I have the flexibility to select the payment gateway (I use Stripe) and 3)don’t need unique or very advanced features, I use Shopify. Have others I am using or will try (BigCommerce is next) I can customize a theme in a couple hours using standard web tools (Coda, Firebug etc.). After having to upgrade and fix and firefight several carts and plugins after PayPal, USPS etc. breaking changes I am going SaaS for future carts (time is money). Shopify may not fit your need, works for me about 80% of the time. Oh, and I was already a BIG fan of stripe so it works for me there too (I really dig API’s :).
