Top 12 Blogs for Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is anything but easy, and no single person has all the answers. The following is a list of blogs that together will provide ecommerce entrepreneurs with the knowledge, inspiration and tools to succeed in that crazy online world out there.

1. Mashable

Mashable was founded by 26 year-old Pete Cashmore (pictured) in 2005. With over 40 million monthly page views, it's often regarded as the leading web news blog in the world. It's a great place to get breaking news and commentary on digital and social media, startup and website reviews and anything related to web culture.

2. GigaOM

GigaOM is a Web 2.0 blog that is well known for it's startup coverage. It offers news, analysis, and opinion on startups, new tech, and e-business.

3. OnStartups

OnStartups is a site that's devoted solely to entrepreneurs. The site was created and is still run by Dharmesh Shahm, the CTO of HubSpot. OnStartups is about quality not quantity, so you'll notice fewer updates than other blogs on this list. Since Dharmesh writes much of the content himself, sometimes a week can go by without seeing a new article.

4. The Next Web

Launched in 2008, The Next Web has quickly become one of the worlds leading tech blogs. It's currently ranked in the top 10 most influential blogs in the world according to Technorati, and is a great resource for global tech trends, apps, and business.

5. Mixergy

The founder of Mixery, Andrew Warner (pictured) has a mission: "To give you an alternative to the know-it-all, professional gurus. To convince you that no single person knows it all. To show you that the best way to grow is to learn from a mix of smart people who are willing to share their expertise and experiences." That's exactly what Mixergy is all about. Mixergy draws entrepreneurship wisdom from experts all around the world and presents their knowledge to you through articles, podcasts, and videos.

6. E-Commerce Times

E-Commerce Times gives you everything you need to know about doing business on the internet. It's a great place to see what's going on in ecommerce without having to weed through a bunch of other topics.

7. Copyblogger

This blogs tagline is "online marketing that works" and shows you how to get more traffic, links, and followers. Essentially, it will teach you to sell more products by upping your content marketing skills and utilizing proper copywriting.

8. Seth Godin's Blog

Seth Godin is widely regarded as one of the greatest marketers of all time. He's a best-selling author, international keynote speaker, and he even has his own action figure. Seth posts to his blog every day (you can sign up to receive his articles via email), and teaches you about the world of marketing.

9. Tyler Cruz

Tyler is an entrepreneur, blogger, and CEO. He chronicles his day-to-day operations as someone who makes a decent living (+$100,000) on this blog and shares interesting insight. He'll post on topics like blogging tips, affiliate marketing, in-depth analysis, random inspirational stuff, and the occasional personal piece.

10. Maple Butter

Founder, Dan Martell, says that Maple Butter is a Startup Blog for Founders up North. While that's certainly true, it's also a great place for all web-entrepreneurs to learn. It's not a startup 101 type site, but it provides useful advice in a fresh no-holds-barred fashion.

11. Four Hour Work Week

This is author Timothy Ferriss' blog. Ferriss teaches and inspires you to live life to its fullest. His ongoing "muse" series showcases entrepreneurs that have started a side-business that generates at least $1,000 extra income a month.

This is the place to go if you're looking for practical ecommerce news and advice. It provides down-to-earth articles geared to help small businesses success online.

@alexandre: It’s #13 :-) It was really difficult narrowing it down. Of course, I wanted to include all the big guys (TechCrunch, RRW, All Things D, Huff-Po Sm Biz…etc..etc..) but there wasn’t enough room.

In the next few months I’ll put out a more comprehensive list. Thanks for your comment!

Typo in #5 – The link is correct but the text says ‘Mixery’ where it should be ‘Mixergy’

I have to say that techcrunch even sans Mike Arrington should be at the top of this list. Not only does it provide straight dope knowledge about entrepreneurship, startups and venture capital but it reports and provides insight into the most important companies and useful case studies of the happenings at these companies.. by far the best tool I have which has led me to all the other tools I know have.

@Derek: You’re right about Get Elastic. Linda Bustos is an excellent blogger and I thoroughly enjoy her in-depth and analytics based articles.

@Daniel Gold: Ya in hindsight I should have included TechCrunch!
